High court dismisses appeal
15-Mar-2008 11:44 AM

A FACTORY worker had his sentence appeal turned down yesterday because the court felt that the sentence was not wrong in principle.

Appearing before Justice Nazhat Shameem, Jotame Nacili argued that his guilty plea was not considered and his accomplice was handed a suspended sentence, which he claims was unfair.

The court heard that on September 6, 2007 Nacili stole items from Anoresh Baran and assaulted him before the robbery.

The case was first called in the Nasinu Magistrates Court on the September 24, 2007.

The case was adjourned to allow the charges to be consolidated with another case and Nacili and his co-accused were granted bail.

On October 5, 2007, Nacili and his co-accused pleaded guilty to the charge.

How do you feel about the rise in fuel prices and increase in taxi and bus fares?
Aritema Navonicagi, 52 “Well in my opinion it is quite early to increase bus and taxi fares because Fiji is not settled politically.”
Nemaniu Qalo, 47 “The bulk of Fiji’s population live in the low income category and we low income earners have very little control over this increase. It will eventually affect everything else, especially food which is the source of livelihood.”
Tara Wati, 50 “I spend approximately $4.50 from my home to the place I sell food every day. I receive very little profit after I deduct all my expenses.”
