BRING IT ON FIJI TO MEET SOUTH AFRICA IN 1/4 FINAL
6-Feb-2010 03:28 PM

THE Digicel Fiji sevens team have qualified for the cup quarter finals today after trouncing Australia in their last pool game last night and sending a clear warning to New Zealand, South Africa and defending title holders England.

After an impressive first day, the Tanivula coached side walked over all its opponents in pool play beating Scotland 36-5, outclassing PNG 41-0 and later trouncing Australia 38-7 to advance to the quarter finals and will face South Africa.

From start to finish Fiji looked less worried when facing its opponents as they steam rolled their way past each team and scoring whenever they had ball in hand.

Fiji, throughout day one had their line crossed twice throughout their three games all thanks to some sound defence and good attacking skills which left Tanivula smiling and happy.

In their third game against the Aussies, Waisele Beci again showed his power and pace to score a try just as he did in his two previous appearances and help the national side in its quest to qualify for the finals.

Lanky Seremaia Burotu and William Ryder who had a quiet first day were also in devastating form as they each scored twice under the post to take the points beyond reach for the young Aussies.

Even when the Aussies had ball in hand, the Fijians were cool under pressure and with some awesome defensive structure, were able to hold their line and keep Australia at bay.

To match their defensive play, their attacking skills were far superior then any other team in the whole tournament as they attacked relentlessly to score points with ease and looking good to take on the might of the All Blacks today.

However, Fiji have not really been tested further as South Africa and New Zealand have after their tantalizing match last night with both sides giving it all their best with the All Blacks just holding on to win.

The real test will come today when they face the Springboks who are hungry to make up for their loss to New Zealand (19-7) last night seeking to advance to the Semi final stages.

All in all the boys have so far proven that they have what it takes to win the tournament and keep their hopes alive of winning this years IRB Series competition from New Zealand.

So let’s continue to cheer on our boys and support them with prayers and hope that when the dust settles tonight, Vucago along with the team members will be lifting the cup and singing songs of joy.

How do you feel about the rise in fuel prices and increase in taxi and bus fares?
Aritema Navonicagi, 52 “Well in my opinion it is quite early to increase bus and taxi fares because Fiji is not settled politically.”
Nemaniu Qalo, 47 “The bulk of Fiji’s population live in the low income category and we low income earners have very little control over this increase. It will eventually affect everything else, especially food which is the source of livelihood.”
Tara Wati, 50 “I spend approximately $4.50 from my home to the place I sell food every day. I receive very little profit after I deduct all my expenses.”
